Biography & Expertise

Usha Ganesan, MD is a board-certified pediatrician specializing in the medical management of eating disorders in children, adolescents, and young adults. She serves as the physician at Align Treatment Center, where she oversees the medical care of patients in residential treatment and works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support each patient’s recovery.

Dr. Ganesan earned her undergraduate degree with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), received her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at the University of California, Irvine.

Throughout her career, Dr. Ganesan has dedicated her practice to the treatment of eating disorders and body image concerns. Recognizing the increasing prevalence of anxiety, depression, and disordered eating among young people, she has become a passionate advocate for both treatment and prevention.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Ganesan is the founder of Beyond the Reflection, an organization committed to promoting positive body image and preventing eating disorders through education. She developed a body image curriculum designed to equip children and adolescents with the skills to build resilience against the pressures of diet culture and unrealistic appearance ideals.

In her outpatient practice, Dr. Ganesan provides comprehensive medical management for patients with eating disorders, developing individualized treatment plans in close collaboration with other members of the treatment team and patients’ families. She practices from a Health at Every Size® (HAES®)-informed perspective and is a strong advocate for Family-Based Treatment (FBT) as an evidence-based approach to adolescent eating disorder recovery.
